Ethel Marie Blixt, age 83, of Escanaba passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at Christian Park Village in Escanaba. She was born July 3, 1940 in Bruce Crossing, MI and was the daughter of Lewis and Mildred (Orsborne) Swanson. Ethel graduated from Ewen High School in 1958. After graduation she moved to Escanaba, as part of the Hiawatha Land Baptist Mission Group. Ethel worked as a clerk, at Neisner’s Dime Store, in downtown Escanaba. The former Ethel Marie Swanson married Richard W. Blixt on June 18, 1960 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Escanaba. Together the couple shared 63 years of marriage and raised three daughters; Katri, Diane and Kelly. Along with raising her own children, Ethel also operated a day care for children out of her home. Ethel was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and the Loving Fingers Quilting Group at Central. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, and sewing.
Ethel is survived by her husband Richard; daughters; Katri Blixt of Escanaba, Diane (Terry) Miller of Escanaba, and Kelly (Dan) Bourdeau of Escanaba; six grandchildren; Lisa, Jason, Carissa, Calvin, Kyle, and Megan; two great grandchildren; Seth and Dante; sister, Bonnie (Mark) Hannemann of Escanaba; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Charlotte Swanson and Mary Applekamp.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services, celebrating the life of Ethel Marie Blixt, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bo Lange officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the Ludington Room located at the Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
