Emily M. Anderson, age 98, of Garden, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 28, 2020 at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone. She was born on April 24, 1921 in Kentucky, the daughter of Stanley and Anna Lusky. At a young age, Emily’s family relocated to Detroit where she was raised and graduated from high school in 1939. Emily worked various jobs in the Detroit area for a few years. The former Emily Lusky married John A. Anderson in 1948 in Detroit and he preceded her in death in 2004. Together, the couple shared 56 years of marriage and raised two children, John and Gayle. Emily was a hard-working homemaker and cared for her husband and children. She and John resided in Dearborn, MI for 60 years until moving to the Upper Peninsula in 2010, settling in Garden. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden. Emily was also involved in the Garden Gourmet Cooking Club, and also the Garden Book Club – she greatly enjoyed reading.
Emily M. Anderson is survived by her son, John “Jac” G. (Juanita) Anderson of Garden; her daughter, Gayle M. Anderson of Escanaba; one granddaughter, Arielle Anderson (Nick Smith) of Escanaba; cousins, Linda and Bob Hertzog & family of Troy, MI, Beth Ann and Alex Latteri & children of California, and Brian (Cyndy)Villani of Lapeer, MI; nieces and nephews, Greg and Marcia Clark & family of Grand Rapids, MI, and Bruce and Carol Clark & family of Grand Rapids, MI; cousins, Kathy Malesewski of Houston, TX and her children, Kristin and Clark, Kathy Griffin of Garden, and Diane Volthouse of Garden.
In addition to her parents, Emily was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters – she was the last of seven children.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, there will be no services at this time. The family would like to extend a special thank you to OSF Hospice, nurses, Rachel and Keisha, and also the caring and compassion given by Lakeview Assisted Living.
