Eleanor Coan Obituary

Eleanor “Ellie” A. Coan, age 91, of Escanaba, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. She was born on February 16, 1929 in DeKalb, IL, the daughter of Anthony and Katherine (Tepovich) Konte. Ellie was raised and attended school in DeKalb, IL where she graduated from high school in 1947. She moved to Chicago to further her education at the Chicago Institute of Art. During her time in Chicago, Ellie met her husband, Robert “Sammy” Coan, who was also attending art school. The former Eleanor Konte married Robert Coan in 1951 and he preceded her in death on December 22, 1978. Together, the couple shared 27 years of marriage and raised two sons, Jim and Mike. Ellie was employed as a secretary at Washington Elementary School in Escanaba for over 35 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Catholic Church in Escanaba. Ellie loved her friends and family dearly, liked working on her computer, had fun traveling, enjoyed going out to dinner and looked forward to the warmth of the sun. We will miss her sense of humor, stories and generosity.

The family wishes to thank those at Bishop Noa and OSF for their care and compassion.

Eleanor A. Coan is survived by sons, Jim (Kris) Coan of Circle Pine, MN, and Mike (Lisa) Coan of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren, Michael Coan, Jack Coan, and Brian Coan; and her brother, Anthony Konte of Detroit, MI.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ellie was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Konte.

Because of the current pandemic, a private family gathering will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba with graveside services to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba with Father Robb Jurkovich officiating. A gathering to celebrate Ellie’s life will be held at a later date.
