Dwaine Berbohm Obituary

Dwaine J. Berbohm, age 87, of Escanaba, passed away early Friday morning May 5, 2023 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. He was born on October 6, 1935 in Hayward, OK, the son of Arthur and Ruth (Hodges) Berbohm. Dwaine was raised in Oklahoma and was a graduate of Keats High School with the Class of 1953. Following graduation, he joined the US Coast Guard and was stationed in Escanaba at the Sand Point Lighthouse. It was while he was living in Escanaba that he met his future wife, the former Joy Peterson. The couple were married on June 22, 1957 in Escanaba and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2003. Together, they raised three sons, D. Jay, Robert, and Michael. Dwaine was employed by Anthony and Company in Escanaba as a machine operator for 40 years. He was proud to have never called in sick during his long employment and retired from the company in 1998. Dwaine loved anything and everything sports related. He was an outstanding basketball and baseball player in his youth and coached several little league teams throughout the years. His favorite time of year was in the spring watching the NCAA March Madness – he could often tell you which teams were going to lose based on their playing history. Dwaine loved following and cheering on all of his grandchildren’s sporting events and was their biggest fan as his family was the most important thing in the world to him.

Dwaine is survived by his 3 sons, D. Jay Berbohm of Gladstone, Robert (Karen) Berbohm of Escanaba, and Michael (Rhonda) Berbohm of Gladstone; 4 grandchildren, Jessica (Mark) Chouinard of Escanaba, Krista (Josh) Pascoe of Noblesville, IN, Justin Berbohm (Beth Pearson) of Escanaba, and Kayla (Jason) VanDrese of Cornell; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosie (Max) Larson of Manhattan, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Dwaine was preceded in death by his brothers, Cecil Berbohm and Gayle Fournier; and sister, Eleanor Correll.

A special thank you to all who cared for Dwaine, especially OSF St. Francis Hospital, Bishop Noa Home, UP Health System – Marquette, and Rampart EMS.
