Douglas Raymond Karl, age 81, of Escanaba passed away Friday December 22, 2023 at U.P. Health Systems- Marquette. He was born December 18,1942 in Menominee, MI and was the son of Roger Frank and Hazel Mae (Lutes) Karl. Doug grew up in the Powers, Spalding, and the Wilson area. He graduated from Powers/Spalding High School in 1961. After graduation Doug worked as a delivery driver with UPS and later owned and operated his own butcher shop in Peshtigo, WI. He then relocated to Escanaba and worked for Harnischfeger Corporation as a welder. In 1977 Doug moved to Seattle, Washington, and worked as an engineer on a crab fishing boat, crabbing in the Bering Sea until his retirements. Doug then moved to a cabin in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State to enjoy his retirement. During his retirement he was a very active member of the Eagles Club in Granite Falls, Washington. In 2012 Doug moved back to Escanaba to be closer to family.
Doug is survived by his sister Suzanne “Suzy” (John) Decker of Escanaba; nephew Scott Decker of Los Angeles, CA and Niece Jill Suzanne Decker of Chicago, IL.
Graveside funeral services will be held in the summer of 2024 at Spalding Township Cemetery in Powers, MI with Rev. Lily Brondyke officiating. Burial will follow services in the Spalding Township Cemetery.
