Dorothy Arnold Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth Arnold, age 98, went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 10, 2020. She was born on December 31, 1921 in Jackson, MI to Frank and Mae (Irish) Moore. She graduated from Parma High School in 1941. Dorothy married Glenn E. Arnold on July 27, 1941 at the 1st Baptist Church of Hillsdale, MI and they settled in the Albion, MI area. Together they had 3 children, Marlene, Larry, and Terry.

Dorothy was a homemaker, mother, and gardener. In 1954, she began working as a secretary to the librarian of the Washington Gardner High School in Albion, MI for 12 years. Her husband, Glenn, owned and operated Arnold’s Tire and Battery Company in Albion. He passed away in November of 1967 and she continued to live and work in the Albion area as a bank teller, substitute rural mail carrier, and delivered newspapers and advertisers on her rural motor routes. Dorothy raised sheep for several years and always had dogs as her companions. She greatly enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter. In 1998, Dorothy moved to Escanaba and attended Calvary Baptist Church. In 2010, she went to live with her daughter in Bark River and in 2012, she entered Christian Park Village in Escanaba, where she resided for 8 years.

Dorothy E. Arnold is survived by her 3 children, Marlene Deming/Ostlund of Bark River, MI, Larry (Lesley) Arnold of Albion, MI, and Terry (Carole) Arnold of Albion, MI; 6 grandchildren, Timothy (Ann) Deming, Daniel (Laurie) Deming, David Deming, Terry Arnold II, Kimberley (Doug) Shreve, and Bryan Arnold; along with 9 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, James W. Moore.

A memorial service for Dorothy will be held in Albion, MI in the spring of 2021. Burial will take place in Albion Memorial Gardens.
