Doris J. Stevenson, 83, of Gladstone, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023, at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba surrounded by loved ones. Doris was born in Plymouth, MI on November 6, 1939, one of six children born to Edward and Minnie Wall. She graduated from Plymouth High School, and resided most of her life in Gladstone after marrying her husband of 42 years, Robert Stevenson.
Doris was an office manager at Delta Reporter and The Daily Press for over 25 years. In her retirement, she worked as a Senior Companion in the Escanaba/Gladstone area.
In her free time, Doris enjoyed painting and crocheting, visiting the family cottage, and spending time with her grandchildren. Doris was also an excellent cook – her family will deeply miss her specialties, fried chicken and homemade apple pie. On weekends, she could be found at the casino hoping to win big on the penny slots. She had a deep love for all animals, and leaves behind her beloved cat and dog, Carly and Maya.
Doris leaves her 5 children, Brian Stevenson, Crystal (Tom) DeNatale, Ryan (Patti) Stevenson, Kimberly (Bill) Johnson, and Melissa (Mike) Hemes; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Chad, and Stephanie Stevenson, Peter and Emma DeNatale, Kinsey Stevenson, Daniel and Caitlin Johnson, and Brad and Mikayla Hemes; her brother, Edward (Linda) Wall; sister, Joyce Budnick; her sisters-in-law, Mary Thomas and Jan (Rob) Crandall; and many nieces and nephews.
Doris’ husband, Robert died in September of 2003. She is also preceded in death by 3 of her siblings, Shirley Dyer, Mary Lou Dyer, and Jackie Wall; her granddaughter, Angel Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Diane Paradise Stevenson.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Doris will follow at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steven Cowen officiating.
