Donald J. Casey, age 67, of Escanaba, passed away Thursday evening, November 25, 2021 at his home. He was born on August 11, 1954 in Detroit, MI, the son of John and Mary (Moore) Casey. Donald was raised in Roseville, MI and was a 1972 graduate of Frazier High School. Following graduation, Donald enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country at the Grafenwoehr Army Base in Germany until he was honorably discharged after being involved in a tank accident. After the military, Donald moved back to Roseville, MI until he relocated to Escanaba in 1987 and attended school at Bay College for two years. Donald was employed by various companies in the area including Hilltop RV, Bay Area Pool & Spa, the Nahma Hotel as a cook, and also performed DJ services. He was known as a jack of all trades, master of none. For many years, Donald ran many haunted houses during Halloween for MDA Charity. He greatly enjoyed watching monster movies. He was a member of the Gladstone American Legion Post 71, was also part of the color guard, and a member of the DAV and VFW. Donald married the former Rebecca Lynn Barnes on December 28, 1989 in Escanaba. Together the couple shared 31 years of marriage and countless memories. Donald will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Casey of Escanaba; son, Adam Casey of Escanaba; daughter, Brittany (Zack) Wood of Appleton, WI; 2 step-sons, Thomas Alleman of VA, and Erin Alleman of CA; 3 grandchildren, Hailie, Harper, and Henrik; sister, Deborah Casey of Ontario, Canada; 2 biological sisters, Rose and Kathy; 5 biological brothers, Wes, Allen, John, Danny, and Ray; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Casey; and biological mother, Kay Nelson.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military Honors will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel by the Delta County Veterans Council along with the Michigan Army National Guard. A luncheon will be held at the conclusion of the services in the Anderson Funeral Home reception room. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery.
