Don C. Allis, age 85, of Escanaba passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. He was born May 8, 1939 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI and was the son of George and Estella (Brawley) Allis. Don graduated from Sault Ste. Marie High School in 1957 and married the former Patricia Hultquist on July 8, 1961 in Iron River, MI. Don graduated from Northern Michigan University with his degree in education and began his career teaching 6th grade in Powers, MI from 1961 until 1964. He then moved to Escanaba teaching 6th grade from 1964 until he retired in 1990. Don enjoyed taking pictures and was a member of the local Camera Club and took pictures for Jack’s Camera Shop and Escanaba City businesses and events. He traveled frequently and both Don and Pat took videos before most people had video equipment. They took extensive pictures and videos of their adventures with their boys Steve and Scott. Don was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School, he played the clarinet in the Escanaba City Band and was a member of the Great Lakes Sportsman Club where he enjoyed shooting skeet.
Don is survived by his wife Patricia; son Steven Allis of Powers, MI; brother Terry (Rosalind) Allis of Escanaba and three nieces Sherri Washabaugh, Kristine Kinnaman and Kimberly Gould.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Scott Patrick Allis on February 21, 2014.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Don C. Allis will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Janice Reed officiating.
