Dennis Allen Newman, age 69, of Gladstone, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023 at his home in Gladstone. He was born on January 8, 1954 in Streator, IL, the son of Allen “Tod” and Shirley (Brandl) Newman. Dennis attended Shasta High School in California before his family relocated to Gladstone where he was a 1972 graduate of Gladstone High School. Dennis was employed in the construction industry and began at CR Meyers and Bolt Construction. He later worked for Cotton Nelson Masonry for the majority of his working career and later at Iverson’s Home Center and JMCA Construction until his retirement. Dennis enjoyed life and loved a good party. He looked forward to spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, playing cribbage, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a longtime member of the Laborer’s Union.
Dennis is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Todd) Rickel of Escanaba; 4 granddaughters, Jill (Jesse) Wagner, McKenzie (Scott) Pendergraft, Caidence Rickel, and Annelice Rickel; great-granddaughter, Rylee Wagner; sisters, Terri Carlson of Wells, and Tammy (Elden) Simmons of Brampton; 1 niece; and 1 nephew.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, Todd Newman.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2023 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dennis will follow at 1:00 p.m., Friday, with Rev. Steve Cowen officiating. Burial will take place following the services in Fernwood Cemetery. A gathering will be held at the conclusion of the graveside services at his daughter’s home.
