Clyde F. Bartlett, Jr., age 92, of Rapid River (Ogontz), passed away Sunday morning, June 7, 2020 at Sunny Shores Adult Foster Care Home in Gladstone. He was born on September 6, 1927 in Flint, MI, the son of Clyde F. Bartlett, Sr. and Esther (Pickering) Bartlett. Clyde was raised and attended school in Flint where he was a 1944 graduate of Central High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army/Air Force. He spent 2 years in Germany before he was honorably discharged. After returning home, Clyde went on to attend the American Television School in Chicago, IL. He was employed by the Illinois Bell Telephone Company for 37 years until he retired in the engineering/management position in 1984. Clyde married the former Roberta Polkinghorn on June 20, 1949 in Chicago. Together, the couple shared nearly 71 years of marriage and raised 6 children, Sharon, Kevin, Carol, Claudia, Teresa, and Nancy. After his retirement, Clyde and Roberta relocated to the Ogontz Bay area and built his home out of the cedar that was cut off of their land. They have enjoyed their retirement in the Upper Peninsula in the cedar log home.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Roberta of Ogontz; children, Sharon (Karl) Bollfrass of Cottage Grove, MN, Kevin (Kathleen) Bartlett of Arlington Heights, IL, Carol Pal of Lindenhurst, IL, Claudia Messner of Escanaba, Teresa Taylor of Skokie, IL, and Nancy Bartlett of Chicago, IL; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Kallsen of South Bend, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy Clyde Bartlett; sisters, Frances Donigan, and Anna Reser; and brother, Edward Bartlett.
Private family funeral services will be held.
