Carol J. Kidd

Carol J. Kidd, age 87, of Escanaba, passed away Wednesday evening, February 15, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. She was born on April 9, 1935 in Escanaba, the daughter of Oscar and Alice (Brandt) Benson. Carol was raised and attended school in Escanaba. The former Carol Benson married Charles Michael “Mike” Kidd on June 15, 1957 in Green Bay, WI and he preceded her in death on December 30, 1976. Together, the couple shared 19 years of marriage and raised 5 children. While raising their children, Carol also worked at Tim & Sally’s Restaurant and later at Community Action Agency. During this time, she also babysat for many families in the area. Carol enjoyed traveling, especially with her sister, Betty. They ventured out on many bus trips to neighboring states and across the country. The two of them also enjoyed day trips on the DATA bus, stopping at the library to check out novels, as they loved to read. The trip usually ended with a stop at the Eagle’s Club to enjoy a drink or two with friends. Carol had achieved a Lifetime Membership with a Golden Eagle Status. She spent hours working on crossword puzzles, watching the TV show Blue Bloods, and all movies on the Hallmark Channel. Carol spent the holidays by doing one of her favorite things, attending the Christmas Eve candlelight ceremony with family at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Escanaba.

Carol is survived by her sons, Steven (Tammy) Kidd of Bark River, David Kidd of Escanaba, Mark (Robin) Kidd of Escanaba, and Terry Kidd of Escanaba; daughter, Stacy (Steven) Mauch of Evansville, WI; 5 grandchildren, Michael (Rebecca) Mauch, William (Gabi) Mauch, Scott Mauch, Stephanie (Eric) Kidd Froberg, and Joseph Kidd; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth James “Jim” Benson of Rockwood, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Rae, Ida Soderman, Dorothy Oakman, Barbara Blake, Catherine Benson, and Betty Jane Wellman; and brothers, Gary Benson, Donald Benson, Robert “Jack” Benson, and William Benson.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2023 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Eagles Auxiliary Post #1088 memorial services will take place at 3:45 p.m., Monday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services celebrating the life of Carol will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Lon Hider officiating. A luncheon will be served at the conclusion of the services at the Local 21 Union Hall in Escanaba. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
