Carl A. Nantelle, age 80, of Gladstone, passed away Saturday morning, July 16, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. He was born on April 19, 1942 in Escanaba, the son of Henry E. and Zerelda Z. (Trudell) Nantelle. Carl was raised and attended school in Escanaba and was a graduate of Escanaba High School. He went on to further his education and receive his degree from Northern Michigan University. Carl enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during the Vietnam Era until he was honorably discharged. After returning home from the service, Carl worked at Harnischfeger Corporation as a welder. He then spent the majority of his working career with the Escanaba School District as a custodian until his retirement in 2000. Carl married the former Ruby LaChapelle on August 31, 1960 in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 61 years of marriage and raised 6 children, Steven, Carl, Laura, Sarah, Henry, and Jason. Carl was active for many years in Ducks Unlimited where he served on many committees and was also a major sponsor. He greatly enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Carl is survived by his wife, Ruby Nantelle of Gladstone; children, Steven (Ann) Nantelle of Marion, WI, Carl Nantelle of Riverland, Laura (Tom) Stemick of Escanaba, Sarah (Matt) Rich of Ishpeming, MI, Henry (Brenda) Nantelle of Escanaba, and Jason Nantelle of Clintonville, WI; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Private family funeral services are being planned for a later date.
