BettyLou Wargen Obituary

BettyLou F. Wargen, age 82, of Bark River, MI, passed away Sunday morning, March 14, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Cornell, MI. She was born on January 27, 1939 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Ervin and Betty (Straka) Suchomel. BettyLou attended Riverside Brookfield High School in Illinois where she graduated with the Class of 1956. The former BettyLou Suchomel married John Paul Wargen on February 15, 1958 in Brookfield, IL. Together, the couple recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. For many years, she worked as a daycare provider. BettyLou later was employed by the Village of Hinsdale where she taught handicap swimming, downhill and cross-country skiing, and horseback riding lessons. Many summers were spent vacationing at their cottage in the Upper Peninsula on Crooked Lake. BettyLou and her husband John later retired to the U.P. and settled in Bark River. She loved her horses and was an avid horseback rider – she even rode up until last year. BettyLou enjoyed the outdoors during all seasons, especially skiing and ice-skating.

BettyLou Wargen is survived by her husband, John Wargen of Bark River, MI; daughters, Bonnie (Tom) Lemke of Lahaina, HI, Vicki (Dennis) Green of IL, and Nancy (Jim) Reilly of Cornell, MI; 3 grandchildren, Jessica Green, William Reilly, and Jamie Reilly.

In addition to her parents, BettyLou was preceded in death by her younger sister, Janet Moushon.

Private family funeral services are being planned. Memorials may be directed to For the Love of a Boxer Rescue & Sanctuary in Wallace, MI.
