Barbara Ann Sorby, a beloved resident of Escanaba, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Transitions Assisted Living in Gladstone. Born on January 24, 1951, to Harvey and Margaret (Paeske) Pierson, Barbara's roots run deep in the heart of Escanaba. She graduated from Escanaba High School in 1969 and married her soulmate, Brian Sorby from Iron River, MI on June 15, 1974. Together, they shared nearly five decades of love, laughter, and adventure, raising two wonderful sons, Kevin and Jeff.
Barbara was a woman of many passions. She and Brian traveled the globe, from the sandy beaches of Hawaii to the scenic landscapes of New Zealand, but their hearts always belonged to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. An avid reader and a lover of nature, she found joy in feeding the birds and squirrels and had a delightful collection of dolls. Her annual visits to the U.P. State Fair as a volunteer were a highlight for her.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She is survived by her sons Kevin (and Dawn) Sorby of Oak Park, IL, and Jeff Sorby of Marquette, MI, her cherished granddaughter Alyssa Sorby of Oak Park, IL her brother Robert Pierson of Escanaba, her twin sister Betty Peterson of Escanaba and sister Jan Borden of Escanaba, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor the beautiful soul that Barbara was.
