Barbara Ann Dahlgren, age 82, of Gladstone (Bayview), passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Cedar Hill Assisted Living in Bark River. She was born on January 25, 1938 in Escanaba, the daughter of Earl and Marie (Sturdivant) Herbst. Barb was raised and attended school in Pine Ridge and later received her high school diploma from Escanaba. The former Barbara Ann Herbst married Leslie Howard Dahlgren on May 17, 1956 in Escanaba and he preceded her in death on October 21, 2007. Together, the couple shared 51 years of marriage and raised 5 children, Howard, Gordon, James, Roy, and Fay. Throughout the years, Barb was a homemaker and cared for her family. She and her husband, Leslie, were strong in their faith as charter members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Barb had a passion for quilting and gave many of them away to family and friends. She also donated many quilts to various organizations, including the Marine Corps, and was recognized for her contributions. Barb enjoyed baking and also getting together with her coffee friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many who will be greatly missed.
Barbara Ann Dahlgren is survived by her sons, James Dahlgren of Marinette, WI, and Roy (Kim) Dahlgren of Bark River, MI; her daughter, Fay (Tony) Runkel of Gladstone; 7 grandchildren, Shawn, Gordon, Michael, Ashley, Alexis, Abby, and Lucas; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Louis Herbst, Gordon Herbst, Bill (Marvella) Herbst, and Ray (Dolly) Herbst; sisters, Alice (Howard) Watchke, Mary Raedar, and Betty Watchorn; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barb was preceded in death by infant son, Mark; sons, Howard and Gordon; and brother, Bob Herbst.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2020 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Due to the current mandate, masks must be worn during the time of visitation. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery. If you have received a quilt from Barb, the family would love to have you bring it to the visitation to see her beautiful works of art.
