Arthur William Pope was born July 3rd, 1946 to Margaret and William Pope in Pontiac, MI. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends on March 25th, 2025.
He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 13 in 1959 and graduated from St. Fredericks Catholic School in 1965. In his 2nd year of college, he was drafted to the Army in 1967 and was Honorably discharged in 1969.
He met the love of his life Denise (Vatca) Pope in 1981 and married April 24, 1982. He had 2 daughters from a previous marriage (Tammy and Tina Pope) and adopted Denise’s 2 children from her previous marriage (Kimberly and David Denton). In 1986 they moved to Whitmore Lake, MI and became the managers of Northfield Estates Mobile Home Park. In 1996 they left Whitmore Lake and moved up north to Escanaba, MI where they became the owners of Hiawatha Motel until Art’s retirement in 2014. After the business was sold, they moved back to lower Michigan to be closer to his family. He was very active in church group activities, but golf was his #1 passion, whether watching it on tv or playing a round with his friends and family any chance he could get.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Denise Pope. Four children; Tammy (James) Greene, Tina (Brian) Anders, Kimberly (Paul) Vollmerhausen, and David (Sharon) Pope. Eight grandchildren: Blake Caswell, Lynn Greene, Blaine Pope, Nicholas Greene, Sara (Drew) Demaris, Theodore Pope, Rose Vollmerhausen, Nathan Vollmerhausen. Sister Phyllis Tyson. He was proceeded in death by his mother Margaret, father William, 3 sisters: Lorraine, Wilma, Maureen.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Delta County Veteran’s services will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery.
