Alice U. Jones, age 96, of Bishop Noa Home Assisted Living, passed away May 9th at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, WI. She was born August 24th, 1928 in Munising, daughter of Charles Mattson and Mary (Shablener) Mattson. Alice was orphaned at age 9 (her mother dying first and father dying 11 months later) but was then adopted by her older sister Helen (Mattson) Johnson and moved to Baltimore. She later moved to Traverse City. Just before she graduated, they moved to Escanaba where she graduated from Escanaba High School (class of 1947). She met and married Gene M. Jones and they resided in Escanaba for their remaining years raising their 3 children (Thomas, Susan, and John). They were married 68 years before Gene passed away at the age of 94. Alice was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She resided at Bishop Noa for several years (apartments and later Assisted Living while her husband Gene resided for 4 years in the nursing home there). She enjoyed playing Bingo and cards with her friends and watching the Packers.
Alice is survived by her 3 children: Thomas (TJ) Jones (Joy Sedlock) of Eagle, ID, Susan (Harry) Erickson of Harvey, and John (Cynthia) Sherman-Jones of Limestone; 5 grandchildren: Andy (Jenny) Erickson, Jenny (Gordon) Erickson, Adriana (Chris) Steinberg, Teresa Sherman-Jones, and Nicholas Sherman-Jones; and 7 great grandchildren; along with her best and loyal friend Bev Ladin.
In addition to parents and her husband, Alice was preceded in death by her sisters Helen, Dora; brothers Gunnard, Runard, Edwin, Robert, and Harold.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 16th, 2025 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday May 16th also at the Anderson Funeral Home. A luncheon will be served afterward. Burial will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery.
