William “Bill” B. Peters, age 83, of 404 South 7th Street in Escanaba, passed away Sunday morning, August 5, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on February 23, 1935 in Detroit, MI, the son of August and Elizabeth Peters. After high school, at age 18, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served our country for 20 years, including his term during the Vietnam War. He married Ryoko Hiraiwa in 1957, and together celebrated 47 years of marriage. Bill worked as a carpenter for the California State Prison system in Chino, CA until his retirement in 2004. He loved music, playing his guitar, and singing. Bill was an avid bowler and enjoyed building things with his hands. He was a loving husband, father, and brother who will be greatly missed.
William B. Peters is survived by his remaining children, August (Lynne) Peters of Calimesa, CA, Jason Peters of Escanaba, Elizabeth (Mark) Trotter of Escanaba, Sherry Peters of Escanaba, and Charlotte (M.J.) Peters of Fortuna, CA; grandchildren, Amy Gonzalez, Demetrian Macon, Aliza Macon, Timothy (Mary) Peters, and Dairyn Peters; great-grandchildren, Dominic Gonzalez, Steven Peters, Koral Peters, and Lyncoln Peters; siblings, August (Linda) Peters of Escanaba, Carol DeLeon of Melvindale, MI, and Jim (Merrance) Peters of Brooklyn, MI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Ryoko Hiraiwa Peters; one son, Lincoln D. Peters; brother, Robert Peters; and sisters, Ethel McIntyre, and Charlotte Ross.
Private services are being held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba.
