Shirley Weissert Obituary

Shirley Alveda Weissert, age 76, of 1403 Minneapolis Ave. in Gladstone, passed away early Saturday morning, July 20, 2019 at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba. She was born on July 6, 1943 in Escanaba, the daughter of Carlton and Carrie (Yeadon) Johnson. Shirley was raised in Escanaba and was a member of the Escanaba High School graduating class of 1961. The former Shirley A. Johnson married Leonard Charles Larson on September 23, 1961 and he preceded her in death on October 8, 1981. Together, the couple shared 20 years of marriage and raised 2 daughters. Shirley later married Dale Myron Weissert on September 21, 1985 and he also preceded her in death on September 3, 2004. She was employed at The Fair Store for many years and also worked at Andrea’s Boutique, both in Escanaba. She was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was part of the Immanuel’s Women’s Group, was a member of the Eagle’s Club 1088 in Escanaba, and was very involved in the PTA. Shirley loved to read, especially romance novels. She also loved to shop. If you didn’t find her shopping with Lynn, she was home decorating her house, especially with Scott’s help! Shirley also loved to spend time with her grandkids. They always left with extra money in their pockets and a full belly. She loved to eat too! It was a passion of hers! If you went to visit her, she would be munching on ice-cream, Hershey’s Kisses, or Main Street Pizza while watching Law and Order or Elvis movies. Shirley will be missed greatly by her family…you never left her house without a “Love Ya” or a hug. We will always miss that…

Shirley A. Weissert is survived by her daughters, Sherri (Gene) Wakkuri of Richmond, VA, and Tami (Scott) Aderman of Gladstone; 3 step-children, Tracia, David, and Marcia; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Carl (Gail) Johnson of Escanaba, Bill (Karen) Johnson of MN, Randy (Kathy) Johnson of Escanaba, and Richard (Diana) Johnson of Gladstone; 1 sister, Peggy Kolonko of WI; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Carrie Johnson; and her husbands, Leonard Larson and Dale Weissert.
