Melvin “Mel” N. Ozimac, age 72, of Escanaba, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at his home in Escanaba. He was born on July 9, 1945 in Escanaba, the son of Frank and Anna (Gersich) Ozimac. Mel grew up in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1963. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 during the Korean War and served as a Specialist 5. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Mel returned to Escanaba and worked for Mead Paper Company for over 30 years until his retirement. He was a founding and active member of the Bay de Noc Great Lakes Sport Fisherman Club. Mel enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, playing cards, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Mel N. Ozimac is survived by brothers, Kenneth Ozimac of Escanaba, and Robert (Sharon) Ozimac of Manistee, MI; sisters, Mary Crose of Macomb Twp., MI, and Elaine “Deb” (Peter) LaPine of East Lansing, MI; many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Ozimac, Thomas Ozimac, and Donald Ozimac; sisters, Margaret Bartoszek, and Carol “Jeanne” Kulaski; and brothers-in-law, Florian “Huntz” Bartoszek, and Arthur “Bud” Crose.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Melvin will follow at 3:00 p.m., Friday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Father Rick Courier from St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials please be directed to the Bay de Noc Great Lakes Sport Fisherman Club, Delta County Cancer Alliance, or the American Cancer Society.
