Mary Franzen Obituary

Mary B. Franzen, age 86, of 3470 Carpenter Rd in Ypsilanti, MI (formerly of Gladstone), passed away Saturday evening, September 7, 2019 at the American House of Petoskey, MI. She was born on February 28, 1933 in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Charles and Rhoda (Martin) Schults. She married Carl D. Franzen on December 29, 1954 in Albion, MI and he preceded her in death in 2007. Mary was a homemaker who raised their four children. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, reading, and playing bingo. She also had a love for cats.

Mary is survived by her son, Gerald (Diane) Franzen of Reno NV; daughter, Linda (Max) Schmaler of Harbor Springs, MI; 6 grandchildren, Colin, Sean, Erin, Logan, Erich, and Garrett; sisters, Charlotte (Keith) Whitesell of Waterloo, IA, Rhoda Spore of Waterloo, IA, and Frances Jett of Shirley, AR; brother, Charles (Judy) Schults of Parkersburg, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sons, Michael and Steven; and sister, Martha Klink.

Private celebration of life services are being held at the convenience of the family.
