Mary L. Casey, age 79, of 323 S. 19th Street in Escanaba, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. She was born on September 2, 1937 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Vaughn and Mabel (Upell) Moore. Mary grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from East Detroit High School. The former Mary Moore married John Truman Casey on September 3, 1954 in Detroit and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2011. The couple shared 56 years of marriage together and raised two children. She owned and operated Mary Casey Ceramics in Detroit, where she owned her own kiln, and also taught ceramic classes for many years. Throughout the years, she had a passion for raising, breeding, and showing Weimaraner dogs, also known as the “Gray Ghost.” Mary was strong in her Catholic faith, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed playing softball.

Mary L. Casey is survived by son, Donald John (Rebecca Lynn) Casey of Escanaba; daughter, Deborah Anne Casey of Windsor, Ontario, Canada; grandchildren, Adam Casey, and Brittney Wood; great-grandchildren, Hailee Wood, and Harper Wood; brother-in-law, James (Jackie) Griener of Arlington, TX; sister-in-law, Carol (Richard) St. Mary of Armada, MI; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends and neighbors.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Gilbert.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Mary will follow at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Father Emmett Norden officiating. A luncheon will be served afterward at Ferdinand’s Mexican Restaurant in Escanaba. Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 18, 2017 in Lakeview Cemetery.
