Margaret M. Kurth, age 87, of Escanaba, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. She was born on June 16, 1930 in Escanaba, the daughter of Nicholas and Mildred (Vardigan) Joran. Margaret grew up in Escanaba, attended Webster Elementary School, and graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School. On August 9, 1958, the former Margaret Joran married Alfred Kurth in Escanaba and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1995. Together, the couple shared 36 years of marriage. Margaret was employed for the Michigan Bell Telephone Company as an operator for over 31 years until her retirement. In her free time, she enjoyed watching television and cheering on various sporting events – especially the Detroit Tigers. She loved stuffed animals and collecting teddy bears. Margaret was a longtime member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Escanaba.
Margaret M. Kurth is survived by one aunt, Patricia Johnson of Escanaba; niece, Carol (John) Villeneuve of Escanaba; nephew, John Hansen of Florida; many other nieces and nephews; and special friends, Will and Arlene Carne & Family of Escanaba.
In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her sister, Janet (Bud) Hansen; and brothers, Paul (Honey) Joran, and Ron (Ann) Joran.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Margaret will follow at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Doletzky of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Escanaba officiating. A luncheon will be served afterward in the Anderson Funeral Home fellowship area. Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
