Joyce Ann Ketola, age 85, previously of 1006 Bass Lake Rd. in Gwinn, passed away Thursday, July, 6, 2017 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, where she has resided for the past 3 years. She was born on July 10, 1931 in McFarland, MI, the daughter of Clarence and Blanche Lancour. Joyce worked in many restaurants in Marquette County throughout her life where she enjoyed meeting many new people. She and her husband, Kenneth, also owned and operated Ketola’s Service Station for 17 years in Three Lakes, MI. Joyce and Kenneth were married for 63 years and he preceded her in death on December 29, 2014. She loved being on the go, shopping, and in her later years she enjoyed attending NMU hockey games. Joyce was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Gwinn.
Joyce A. Ketola is survived by sons, Larry (Bonnie) Ketola of Negaunee, Dale Ketola of Columbus, MT, and Mark (Jackie) Ketola of Columbus, MT; special foster daughter, Maxine (Mike) Denofre of Ishpeming; 9 grandchildren, Bill (Denise) Ketola, Mike (Jessica) Ketola; Sonya (Eddie) Mercados, Jason (Randi) Ketola, Chad Ketola, Keith (Jenny) Ketola, Brad (Misty) Ketola, Kaitlyn Ketola, and Jordyn Ketola; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Blanche Latvala, and Margaret Blake; and brothers, Dwight (Priscilla) Lancour, and Orvil (Joyce) Lancour.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Gary; and brothers, Pete, Ralph, Lawrence, and Danny Lancour.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church in Gwinn. Funeral services celebrating the life of Joyce will follow at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Andrew Plocher officiating. A luncheon will be served afterward in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in Forsyth Township Cemetery in Gwinn.
