John W. Ostman

John W. Ostman, age 79, of Escanaba, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at his home. He was born on June 3, 1939 in Escanaba, the son of Stanley and Marianne Ostman. John grew up in Escanaba and was a 1957 graduate Escanaba High School. He and his daughter, Andrea, lived in New Jersey for many years and was employed for Charter Communications in their sales department until his retirement. 30 years ago, John moved back to Escanaba to care for his elderly father. In his retirement years, John was always on the go. He enjoyed working at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and in the pro shop at Sweetgrass Golf Club in Harris, MI. John lived a very active lifestyle that included golfing, cross country skiing, walking, and biking. He was a cycling enthusiast that enjoyed a Clearly Red Beer at Hereford and Hops after long rides. John was a dedicated father and grandfather. He would make annual trips to Georgia to visit his daughter and grandchildren and attended numerous sporting events (soccer and volleyball) to cheer on his grandkids. John had a huge heart, was a dear friend to many, and a stranger to no one. He was a member of the Escanaba Kiwanis Club.

John W. Ostman is survived by one daughter, Andrea (Brian) Cramsey of Jefferson, GA; grandchildren, Zakary Cramsey, Taylor Cramsey, and Jake Cramsey; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Gunderman.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of John will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bo Lange officiating.
