Herbert G. Townsend III

Herbert G. Townsend III, age 50, of Escanaba, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at his home. He was born on April 15, 1968 in Flint, MI, the son of Herbert Glenn II and Janet (Denessen) Townsend. Herb graduated from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he honorably served his country. He worked at Marinette Marine as a painter for many years until he transferred to IMC in Escanaba. He married the former Donna Griggs in 2009, and together the couple shared 9 years of marriage. Herb was a jack of all trades and worked hard for everything. He had a huge heart and would give the shirt off of his back to anyone. His grandchildren and nieces and nephews were the light of his life. Herb was an avid football fan and loved to cheer on the Detroit Lions. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Herbert G. Townsend III is survived by wife, Donna Townsend of Escanaba; children, Hannah (Trae) Petersen, Shane (Katie) Gribble, Brett Aaron Townsend, Danielle Smiley, and Deschea Tucker; grandchildren, Anna, Mavis, Lacey, Shane, Jr., Lexie, Rhett, and Carter; mother, Sandy (John) Beggs; sisters, Doreen Townsend, Kristy Tarris-Waters, and Carrie Tarris-Youngs; and nieces and nephews, Holly, Haile, Brian, Haven, Jacob, Jordan, Savannah, Amanda, and Nikki.

Herbert was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Glenn Townsend II; one sister, Jacqueline Braymen; and one brother, Dorwin Townsend.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at New Life Assembly of God Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Herbert will follow at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, with Pastor Scott Breault officiating. A luncheon will be served afterward in the Church Fellowship Hall.
