Hannah Mildred (Borgen) Gerard, 100, of Gladstone, MI, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2019, at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba, MI where she had been a resident for several months.
Hannah was born on August 9, 1919 in Pequaming, MI to Christian and Constance (Pettersen) Borgen. The family moved to the Borgen farm on the Skanee Rd. outside of L’Anse in 1925. Hannah attended the L’Anse schools.
Hannah married Francis “Fritz” Gerard in 1942 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Assinins, MI. She was a stay at home mom and a great cook and baker. Her rye bread and peanut rolls were family favorites. She did crosswords puzzles in pen and loved to read. She and Fritz were members of the Delta Merry Mixers square dancing group where they enjoyed dancing, traveling and eating with their friends.
Hannah is survived by her loving children, Ann (Mark) Goodman of Gladstone, MI, Curtis (Deborah) Gerard of Caspian, MI, Peter (Janice) Gerard of Dexter, MI; 8 grandchildren, Jay Goodman, Dr. Amanda Goodman, Jessica Gerard, Erin (Eric) Stapleton, Emily Hannah (Garrett) Meyers, Nicholas Gerard, Lucas Gerard, Jacob Portmann; 7 great grandchildren, Silvan, Gavin, Tucker, Madison, Taylor, Brynn Hannah and Harrison; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis (1981); her parents; and her 10 brothers and sisters.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the L’Anse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Curtis Gerard, P.O. Box 306, Caspian, MI 49915. Hannah’s 7-month-old great grandson, Harry, has Cystic Fibrosis. Curtis has a fundraiser through Thrivent Financial to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The family wishes to thank the Bishop Noa Home and Dr. Mary Whitmer for their excellent care and kindness to our mother.
