Edward R. Paulson Jr., age 59, of Gladstone, MI (formerly Eau Claire, WI) passed away suddenly Thursday, August 9, 2018, just 6 days before his 60th birthday.
Ed was born on August 15, 1958 in Ishpeming, MI, the son of Edward Sr. and Audrey (Blaim) Paulson and spent most of his childhood between Rhinelander and Eau Claire, WI. He graduated from Memorial High School in Eau Claire, WI in 1976.
Ed immediately had a passion for radio and worked in radio his entire life. He was employed at many radio stations throughout Wisconsin including; WGLX, WYTE, WAXX, WAYY, WIZD and ending at KIX Country 104.7 in Escanaba, MI.
Ed took pride in his knowledge of everything football and his ability to put his name into everyday words coined as “Ed-isms.” He made great Spagh-eddie, Lasagn-ed and Jambaly-eddie. He passed his love of football and the Green Bay Packers to his daughter and they could banter all day about how they should really just be on the sidelines offering their expert advice, or at the very least, step in at secondary. He had seen the Packers play every NFL team in person except three. However, one thing he hated more than anything was the dreaded Viking forghorn. Ed made everyone laugh and he loved to be the one making everyone laugh. He was absolutely infectious with his quick wit and ability to pull a joke out of nowhere. Almost everywhere he went, a hilarious story followed. He was wildly creative and had an amazing ability to conjure up unique radio promotions, commercials, and topics for his radio show. He was a walking, talking Shazam app. No one could hold a candle to his knowledge of music of any genre. His music collection was impressive…like 20GB of audio files impressive. Ed absolutely loved being a grandpa, or Pop Pop, as his granddaughters called him. He would teach them the most redundant, annoying songs (like Witch Doctor) and smile mischievously with glee as they would sing these songs over and over, wearing on their parent’s last nerve. He loved the water and he fortunately taught his granddaughters his spectacular splashing techniques. All his expert splashes have names; the Tidal Wave, The Tornado, the Sneak Up and the Alligator to name a few. Yes, Ed was a jokester but his heart was solid gold. He loved his family with his whole heart and the sun rose and set with his grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his mother, Audrey (Blaim) Paulson; his daughter, Kristin Paulson (David) Burkart; his beautiful granddaughters, Maisie Reese and Halle Grace; aunts, Helen Mattila of Republic, and Irene Blaim of Northville, MI; and many cousins, aunts, and an abundance of friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his father, Edward Paulson Sr., and his sisters, Elizabeth and Kathryn Paulson.
