Diane Marie Meehan, age 88, of 2127 24th Ave. South in Escanaba, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Houston, TX. She was born on October 5, 1928 in Hurley, WI, the daughter of Edward and Jessie (Auger) Gibbons. Diane graduated from Hurley High School, then attended St. Catherine’s College in St. Paul, MN, and went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in the spring of 1950 with a degree in education. The former Diane Gibbons married John “Jack” Meehan on September 20, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley, WI and he preceded her in death in 1984. Diane taught at several schools in Escanaba until her retirement. Following her retirement, she was honored to be a proofreader at the Escanaba Daily Press.

Despite her distaste for cooking, her kitchen was always full of people laughing and talking, eating microwaved bran muffins, chocolate ice cream, and playing card games. She was an active, smart, and spunky woman who could be found at the Stonehouse on Friday evenings without a fail. She had wonderful, loyal friends and neighbors who kept her life interesting and happy. She was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Catholic Church. Diane loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Diane Marie Meehan is survived by four children, Patricia Martin of Sprimont, Belgium, Michelle Meehan (Robert Buddingh) of Seabrook, TX, Kathy (Steve) Wille of Cary, IL, and John (Laura) Meehan of Fox River Grove, IL; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by infant son, Robert John; and son-in-law, Leon Martin.
