David Moore Obituary

David G. Moore, age 67, of 1016 8th Avenue South in Escanaba, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, surrounded by his beloved wife, children, and their spouses.

Dave was born on October 4th, 1951 in Detroit, MI to William and Norma Jean (VanPelt) Moore. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1973-76, stationed in Furth, Germany, as part of the 16th Engineer Battalion. After being honorably discharged as a sergeant, he moved to the Upper Peninsula, where he met his wife, Lynn (Brown) Moore. They had two children, Ian and Lauren. Dave was a successful mechanical engineer and ended his career at Austal as a project manager.

Whenever anyone needed help Dave was there, willing to lend a hand. People gravitated towards him because of his natural charm and good-humor. He made friends wherever he went, up until the very end. His kindness was not limited to people; he loved his cats and what he lovingly called his “grand-dogs,” as well.

Dave never wanted anyone to tell him the odds, because he knew he would beat them. Originally given eighteen months to live, he defied the odds for seven years. In that time, he spent quality time with his family, doing the things he loved and making memories. Despite his lengthy illness, he always stayed positive and made sure to use the time he had left spending it with the people he loved. He enjoyed having coffee with his mother-in-law every morning, going to the movies with his daughter, and even had the chance to fly in an airplane piloted by his son.  Though his time on this earth was not nearly long enough, he spent it well and leaves behind an amazing legacy. He taught his kids that no one fails unless they give up, which is a lesson they will always take strength in.

Dave is survived by his wife, Lynn; his two children, Ian (Kayleen) Moore, and Lauren (Zachary) Bishop; his brother, John (Marla) Moore; nieces and a nephew; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sue and Scott Funk; nephew, Kyle; and mother-in-law, Carol Brown.

Dave was preceded in death by his father, William; his mother, Norma; as well as his father-in-law, Lloyd Brown.

Private family visitation and funeral services with Military Honors will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Mausoleum. His family is thankful for the care he received at CFAC 7 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, especially from Donnell, who became his friend. Any memorials are welcome to be sent to Kathy’s House (600 N 103rd St, Milwaukee, WI 53226), the Delta County Cancer Alliance, or the Delta Animal Shelter.
