David W. Campbell, age 90, of Cornell, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. He was born on November 13, 1928 to Wallace and Dorothy (Michau) Campbell in Escanaba. David grew up on the family farm in Woodlawn (Cornell area). He attended the Woodlawn one room school through eighth grade and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1946. Following graduation, David worked on the family farm and in the woods until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953. David was employed by the Michigan Bell Telephone Company in Escanaba as a switchman for 35 years, retiring in 1991. He married the former Ruth Johnson on October 20, 1962 in Escanaba. He built their home in Cornell in 1963 and lived there until 2014 when they moved to Escanaba. David and Ruth were longtime residents of Cornell. He liked working in the yard, growing a vegetable garden, and tinkering/fixing things. David enjoyed spending time in the woods, deer and partridge hunting, and driving and working with his “Farmall H” tractor. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Escanaba.
David W. Campbell is survived by his wife, Ruth Campbell of Escanaba; sister, Maysie Talcott of CA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bruce and Edward Campbell; and 1 sister, Dorothy Jean Stevens.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 12, 2019 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of David will follow at 2:00 p.m., Monday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jay Gilchrist officiating. A luncheon will be served at the conclusion of the services in the Anderson Funeral Home fellowship area. Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations please be directed to the Ford River Community Chapel.
