CHARLES EDWARD DEDIC, born December 20, 1935 died unexpectedly on Oct 19, 2019. He was born in Perkins, MI on the farm where he lived most of his life. He served on active duty in the Army from 1954 to 1957. Returning from the Army with the GI bill, he attended Northern Michigan University and graduated in 1962. He taught High School English and Journalism in Newberry and Escanaba, MI for over 30 years retiring in 1990 all the while operating a family dairy farm west of Perkins, MI.
Charles enjoyed writing, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family playing an old family card game “sheepshead.” He self-published 8 books, many detailed biographical and historical short stories, mostly non-fiction, however, as a story teller, fiction was definitely part of his writing.
Charles is survived by five children, Charles C. Dedic, Deanna M. (Dave) Bartelme, Lisa (James) Clack, Edward C. (Jill) Dedic, Steven (Natasha) Dedic; 5 grandchildren, Heather, Brandon (Cassandra), Dustin (Sarah), Tanner and Erin; 9 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Gavin, Bailey, Brylee, Nikolai, Bryce, Kyran, Brahm, and Scarlette.
He was preceded in death by his uncle, George Hanis; father, Charles P. Dedic; mother, Agnes (Hanis) Dedic; his wife, Annette Louise (Engman) Dedic; and his daughter, Kimberly (Danny) Long.
A celebration of life will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Gladstone. Closing remarks will take place at 2:00 p.m., Friday. Cookies and coffee will be served during the time of visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charles E.
