Thelma A. Truchan, age 95, of Marquette, passed away Wednesday morning, October 18, 2017 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. She was born on August 22, 1922 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Fred and Agnes (Enger) Corell. Thelma grew up in Detroit and graduated from Detroit Denby High School in 1940. On October 25, 1944, she enlisted in the U.S. Women’s Army Corps during WWII. Thelma was stationed as a Sargent in Tampa, FL until she was honorably discharged on August 2, 1946. The former Thelma Corell married John Truchan on October 28, 1950 in Detroit and he preceded her in death on January 27, 2011. Together, the couple shared 60 years of marriage and raised two children. Thelma worked at Michigan Bank in Downtown Detroit for a few years until she became a homemaker, caring for her husband and children. She was proud to have served her country and to be a veteran. Thelma was strong in her faith as a long-time member at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Clair, MI. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be missed by so many.

Thelma A. Truchan is survived by son, John (Sue) Truchan of Cedarburg, WI; daughter, Linda (George) Bonefeld of Marquette; 5 grandchildren, Erik (Jenny) Truchan, Mark (Natalie) Truchan, David Truchan, Matthew Bonefeld, and Laura (Andrew) Miller; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred McDowell, and Helen Alexy.

Graveside Military Honors by the Michigan Army National Guard will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, November 3, 2017 at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia, MI. The family would like the thank the staff at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans for the wonderful care they gave to Thelma.
