Welcome to the memorial page for

Robert G. Rohde

July 23, 1939 ~ June 17, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Robert Glen Rohde, age 77, of Escanaba, left this world on Saturday, June 17, 2017.  He came to us from the union of Raymond and Esther (Chroge) Rohde in Escanaba, MI on July 23, 1939.  A pain in his foot in 2015 led to a diagnosis of lung cancer.

Bob was a multi-faceted man who followed his own professional path, not for financial gain, but for self-interest with true grit, and sometimes the consequences were not always to the approval of others. His true passion was being an industrial engineer which led him to many different challenges. Bob used the knowledge he gained at MSOE to carve his path in life, gaining a few patents for the employers he worked for as a contract engineer. Along the way he started his coin and stamp collecting, became a builder, and was the co-owner of Racing Diecast Plus. Later in life and a surprise to himself, he became a wood cutter where he gained a great appreciation for the land and nature itself. Bob began collecting art and had planned to market it this summer. Both he and his mother were movie buffs and he was great at coming up with fictional characters to be entertained, with the most recent being Cardinal Giseppi. He did not judge himself by the expectations of family or friends. He lived his life the way most of could wish to do as he pursued his interests. In Bob's final months, he took pride in providing for his mother's care at Sunnyview Adult Care and for having the good fortune of having the new owners of the homestead find him.

Left to mourn our loss is his mother, Esther; and his life partner, Sharon Sinclair.  He is further survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Culver, Karen (Bill) Kohlbeck and Susan (Joe) Schultz and their children; his cousin, Rita Lindquist and her children; and his daughters' mother, Mae Rohde.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond; sister, Shirley Ellison; along with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Both Bob and Sharon want to thank Gary and Julie at Sunnyview for the care being provided for Esther, and to Tim and Pam for allowing him to spend his final days at the homestead.  He felt as if they were all sent by God so he could "move on" to the next stage in life.  Also to Randy who helped him in his every day needs.  We want to thank the doctors and staff at Bellin Cancer Center and UP Health System for providing compassion and professionalism during this final journey. Give your loved ones a hug today!
