Nancy Carol Baum, 87, of Escanaba, passed away Sunday, April 22, surrounded by family, at UP Health System - Marquette. Nancy was born on October 20, 1930 in Marquette, MI, the daughter of Fred and Lillian (Johnson) Robare. She graduated in 1947 from John D. Pierce High School in Marquette and went on to earn a secretarial certificate from Northern Michigan College. On December 27, 1951, she married Roy D. Zwemer, who died in 1960, in Houghton, MI, leaving her a widow with two young daughters.
On July 27, 1962, Nancy wed John D. “Jack” Baum of Escanaba, and they were married until his death in 2009. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved cooking and caring for her family. Nancy enjoyed socializing with friends, dancing, bowling, bird watching, berry and mushroom picking. An avid Bridge player, Nancy and her Bridge “sisters” played together for over 50 years. She was a volunteer for the Cancer Society, OSF St. Francis Hospital, and traveled on several medical missions to Honduras with Jack. Nancy and Jack spent over 20 winters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico making many friends while there. Summers were spent at their beloved camp on Round Lake. She was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Morning Doves Circle.
Nancy C. Baum is survived by her children, Debra Weber of Colorado, Jill (Thomas) Baugnet of Munising, and Michael (Laura) Baum of Suamico, WI; step-children, Sandy (James) Johnson of Florida, and Jeffry (Debbie) Baum of Green Bay, WI.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Fred (Barbara) Robare of Marquette, MI.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Roy and Jack, Nancy was preceded in death by one brother, Don Robare.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Nancy will follow at 4:00 p.m., Friday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Erik Heskin officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Nature Conservancy - Michigan or The American Cancer Society.
