Loren R. Wangerin, age 72, of 2822 6th Ave. W. in Gladstone, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at UP Health System – Marquette. He was born on July 30, 1944 in Daggett, MI, the son of Robert and Evelyn (Hansen) Wangerin. At age three, the family moved to Escanaba where he and his siblings were raised. Loren graduated from Escanaba High School and went on to attend Northern Michigan University. Following college, Loren worked in the construction industry for many years. He then attended Bay de Noc Community College where he received his Waste Water Treatment Degree and was employed in Door County. Loren moved back to the Gladstone area and worked Betz Engineering. He then drove school bus for McKnight Transportation until his retirement. He was very musically inclined and played in the Escanaba City Band for many years. Loren was a phenomenal woodworker and created many detailed pieces, including a carving of the actual Gladstone School that to this day hangs in their library. Loren always enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Loren R. Wangerin is survived by sister, Eileen Wangerin of Gladstone; brother, Glenn (Cindy) Wangerin of Escanaba; one niece, Abby Pafford of Oakland, TN; her daughter, Halle; one nephew, Mike (Brienne) LaVigne of Escanaba; and their kids, Baylie, Kamryn, Easton.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Brian in 1991; and great-niece, Marley.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Loren will follow at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Johnson of Christ the King Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will take place in Stephenson Township Cemetery.
