David A. Holmes, age 67, of 47720 Co. Rd. 426 in Arnold, MI, passed away early Friday morning, September 29, 2017 at his home. He was born on November 30, 1949 in Marquette, MI, the son of Kenneth and Armeen (Luemux) Holmes. David attended school in Gwinn and graduated from Gwinn High School. He went on to attend Northern Michigan University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in physical education. David married the former Mary Gustafson on April 28, 1975 at the Watson Bible Chapel. Together, the couple shared 42 years of marriage and raised two children. David taught for several years at Wells Twp. School in Arnold. He also worked as a machine operator in the woods, and throughout the Upper Peninsula installing cable. He had to take an early retirement due to crippling arthritis. David was an avid outdoorsman, loved to watch and play any sports game, enjoyed reading books, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Watson Bible Chapel.

David A. Holmes is survived by wife, Mary Holmes of Arnold; one son, David Holmes of Arnold; one daughter, Danielle (Rob) Reis of Millington, MI; one granddaughter, Abby Reis; sister, Linda (Tim) Esser of Milwaukee, WI; five brothers, Kenneth Holmes of Arnold, Steve Homes of Arnold, and Dan (Brenda) Holmes of Milwaukee, WI, Peter Holmes of Arnold, and Mark Holmes of Gwinn; and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Armeen Holmes.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Wells Twp. Hall in Arnold. Funeral services celebrating the life of David will follow at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, in the Wells Twp. Hall with Pastor Bill Hill officiating. A luncheon will be served afterward in the Wells Twp. Hall fellowship area.
