Constance “Sally” Hofer

Constance “Sally” Hofer, 91, of Escanaba, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba. She was born July 17, 1925, in Pequaming, Mich., and was the daughter of Clarence “Hank” and Evelyn (Stein) Monette. Sally attended Pequaming High School and had the opportunity to dance with Henry Ford, who owned most of the town of Pequaming. She graduated from Pequaming High School in 1943. She moved to Detroit and worked during World War II as “Rosie the Riveter” in an airplane factory. Sally was a homemaker and raised her three children. In 1960 she moved to L’Anse, Mich., where she was a very active member of the First Lutheran Church singing in the church choir and helping with the Priscilla Club. In 2006 she moved to Gladstone to be closer to her children. Sally is a member of the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. Family was extremely important to Sally. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working cross word puzzles.

Constance “Sally” Hofer is survived by: daughters, Sally Anne (Jerry) Witz of Gladstone and Susan (Doug) Anderson of Gladstone; son, Robert (Maureen) Hofer of Marquette; nine grandchildren, Jeffery Witz, Tina Durant, Bridget Lambrecht, Maura Holma, Karin Adams, Anthony Hofer, Tricia Anderson, Jennie Gylock, and Jacqui Brooke Anderson; 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Monette and Jacqueline Sikkila.

A private family gathering is being planned for later this summer.
